BayWa r.e. sells 24 MW wind farm

to overview

BayWa r.e. has successfully sold the Montjean Theil-Rabier wind farm, located approximately 150 kilometres north of Bordeaux. The buyer is a joint subsidiary of Innergex Renewable Energy Inc., a developer, owner and operator of renewable energy projects, and Régime de rentes du Mouvement Desjardins, a Québec-based private pension plan.

This represents the second sale of a French wind farm this financial year for BayWa r.e. After completing the 24 MW project in December 2016, BayWa r.e. will take over the technical and commercial management of the plants. Closing of the transaction is expected to take place by the end of the year.

The Montjean Theil-Rabier wind farm comprises twelve Vestas V 110 turbines with a hub height of 95 metres. Can Nalbantoglu, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. France SAS, who is responsible for the French wind project business, adds, “The installation of our own transformer station makes it possible for us to directly connect the plant to the high-voltage network. With this interface we can guarantee a smooth feed-in of green energy. In the future, more than 25,000 homes will be supplied with clean energy.”

Overall, BayWa r.e. has already erected and commissioned five wind farms in France with a total output of 74 MW. The company also currently manages the technical and commercial management of wind and solar plants on the French market totalling 200 MW.

“Our successful sale of this project has put us in a strong position to continue investing in France. We are planning to sell one more wind farm in the upcoming weeks and have started construction on three new projects with a total output of approximately 54 MW”, explains Matthias Taft, Board Member of BayWa AG, responsible for the energy business. “We will also spur on long-term development of our business activities in the area of solar energy and service to further establish our competitive position in the core market of France as well.”
